Original Cholula Hot Sauce Bottle
A quick conceptual shoot of Cholula Hot Sauce for my portfolio. For those that are curious about how important a roll the camera plays in the final shot, I have included a basic cell phone pic of what you see above. Yes the camera is very important, but the real difference is in the lens and lighting. While the quality of the image is controlled by the camera, the lens is what captures the perspective. The field of view and depth is what draws you into the scene.
The reflections in the glass bottle and produce, shows the drastic difference from the regular florescent lighting versus the soft diffused lighting used above (another behind the scenes shot below shows how I lit the final shots).
Cholula Hot Sauce Close Up
In order to avoid the harsh, glaring reflections shown in the cell phone pic, my studio lights (much bigger and more powerful than the traditional flashes you have on your personal camera or cell phone but essentially the same thing) are softened by shooting them thru the white material you see in the image below (it's a thick plastic film, similar to velum) which spreads out the light over the entire surface.
