Orchid Splash Photography
This was a personal project, that evolved into a portfolio worthy piece of art work. I happened to walk into my local grocery store (yes to buy alcohol for another shoot, don't judge me) and these gorgeous blue orchids greeted me right as I walked in the magic doors (come on I can't be the only one that feels like Darth Vader when the doors automatically slide open just as I approach). Believe it or not, they really are these shades of blue, no special effects or enhancements. Click the image to see in full resolution.
Splash Photography Behind The Scenes
I promise, no smurfs were harmed in the making of this photo...bruised maybe, cut slightly perhaps, but a full recovery is expected, so no need to call PITA.
Inevitably, someone will send a private message asking if I painted on the drips or how exactly I did it. Clearly they don't know me, I can barely draw my own name, let alone paint... Everything I put out is photographed. Yes the majority of times the final image is a combination of multiple images "Photoshopped" together, but still a photograph. In this case I believe there was 1 of the flowers and 19 different drips and splatters, plus the entire background was replaced.
So what is this mystery juice you see above? It worked perfectly, but boy I really should have thought it through first (more on that in a moment)... it was Heavy Whipping Cream with blue food coloring.
For those who haven't already figured it out, this stuff is loaded in fat; yes tastes amazing with a little sugar whipped in to make whipped cream for your desserts and looks amazing in my picture, but when it comes time for clean up... I can attest that water and fat do not mix. This little puddle you see here took me over an hour, on my hands and knees to clean up. Go ahead, be the first one to send me a message about putting down a plastic tarp...I will find you and cut you!
